Our Vision
Based on John Chapter 17 vs. 20-26
The occasion is the Last Supper. Jesus is dining with his disciples. He has lived and worked and shared His life with these friends for 3 years. He has taken them on the road, trained them up, and taken time out to explain things to them. Now He has just 24 hours to live. What will He say to them? What would we say? Would we be tempted to write a very detailed list of ‘dos’ and ‘don’ts’, strict instructions and reminders of methods, pitfalls to avoid, etc. In contrast, Jesus’ last words to His disciples are simply about unity. His prayer for them, and all who will believe in their message (that’s us), is that they may be one, as Jesus and His Father are one (John 17:20-21). We are called to be united in the body of Christ, because of Christ’s death and resurrection. Why is Jesus so passionate about our unity? The answer is in verse 23. ‘...to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me’. As we send out mailings about Lighthouse, Fresh Cafe and Encounter events, we are continually stunned by the sheer numbers of Christian Churches in our town and surrounding area. The vision of The Encounter Trust is to provide opportunites for Christians to come together on a local level, as one voice, in unity. Our prayer is to see the out working of verse 23…That the world may know!
The provisional dates for Lighthouse 2011 are Monday 25th to Friday 29th July. |
