What is Lighthouse?
Lighthouse is a Christian holiday club, which gets the summer holidays off to a great start. Lighthouse started in Great Missenden in 1987; based on this experience, Lighthouse Hazlemere started in 2000 and Lighthouse High Wycombe was new for 2006.
What goes on at Lighthouse?
The Lighthouse format is simple and fun. At the start and finish of each day we gather everyone together in the main marquee for worship, teaching, drama, competitions, etc. For the rest of the day children have a programme of games, performing arts and craftwork, plus a year-group session to explore the day's theme and a 'Lighthouse' (small-group) session to take this further. The 10s and 11s age group have a separate program including an exciting choice of workshops.

Who is in charge of the children?
Lighthouse is staffed by volunteers, drawn mainly from local churches. Children spend most of each day in year-groups, which are broken down into smaller groups called Lighthouses. Each Lighthouse has a Lighthouse Keeper (responsible leader) and one or more Lamplighters (younger assistants). Specialist teams help with craft, performing arts and games. We take up references for all our helpers. Adult (17+) helpers are police checked through the Criminal Records Bureau Disclosures scheme.
Groups
In line with schools, we calculate year groups according to a child's age on 31 August. If you let us know in advance, it may be possible for a child to go into a younger age group. Children can go into a younger age group (e.g. to be with a younger sibling), but younger children cannot join an older age group. Children are put into Lighthouses (small groups) on day 1 of Lighthouse. Please do not request for children to be put in the same group as siblings and friends on your application form, but aim to arrive together on day 1, Monday 26th July. We will do our best to accommodate requests.
What about younger children?
Children aged 4 have half-day programme on each Lighthouse site. There is also a mornings-only programme for parents-and-toddlers at Holy Trinity Church, Amersham Road, Hazlemere and St. Francis of Assisi, Amersham Road, High Wycombe (no need to pre-book for parents-and-toddlers, just turn up).
How much does it cost?
Running Lighthouse costs nearly £50 per child. We make no charge for children attending Lighthouse, but we do welcome donations according to what you can afford. We will send you details of how to give to Lighthouse once your application form has been processed.
Lighthouse Bus
Please walk your child(ren) to and from Lighthouse if at all possible. Because parking is especially difficult at Lighthouse High Wycombe, so we would encourage you to send your child(ren) on the free Lighthouse High Wycombe bus. There is no Lighthouse Hazlemere bus. A fully staffed bus will be calling at [A] Lane End Elim Church, [B] St Birinus & St Johns Church, Booker, [C] St Peters, Micklefield, [D] Christ Church, Flackwell Heath [E] Highcrest School, [F] Pastures Church, Downley, [G] The Avenue Methodist Church (Castlefield). We recommend that children in the 4s age group do not take this bus, unless accompanied by an older sibling or friend also coming to Lighthouse.
What happens next?
Please complete all sections of the application form. Only leaders children, grandchildren or leaders younger siblings can be guaranteed places. After this, places will be given on a first come, first served basis. We will write to you as soon as we have processed your application and allocated places. We are unable to confirm child places before July; please wait for us to write to you at the beginning of July.
