| Young Families Worker sought |
The High Wycombe Methodist Circuit Leadership Team is continuing its policy of putting additional lay support into churches for specific projects. They are now looking for someone to work in the Flackwell Heath area on an initial one year fixed term contract. This may be extended after a review at the end of the initial period. The position is for someone to work with the minister, congregation and ecumenical partners of Flackwell Heath Methodist Church to help develop its mission and ministry in the local community. They will be building on and continuing the work of the ecumenical e-team project that has been assessing the church’s ministry and mission in the community. They will be working particularly with younger families and parents, helping to develop programmes aimed at younger families, for example Parenting courses, and complementing the work being done by Christ Church in the local schools. They will be helping the congregation find new ways of outreach through involvement in other community groups and events, and encouraging new forms of worship suitable for younger families such as Sunday Live. |
| All Saints church needs help! |
All Saints Church, built 900 years ago, is one of the oldest buildings in High Wycombe. For the past 500 years the church bells of High Wycombe have rung across the town for services and weddings, but structural problems in the tower means they could become silent, unless £250k can be raised to restore the tower and bells. Local people are helping with the appeal. Wooden beams which are a structural part of the tower have been attacked by death watch beetle and there are several active cracks in the walls of the tower. The four largest bells are no longer being swung, to prevent their movement widening the cracks in the tower. If necessary the smaller bells will soon be stilled as well.
